Tunisian Crochet Workshop 27/9/26

Can you crochet? Would you like to further your learning and learn the exquisite art of Tunisian Crochet? 

Come along to this Sunday afternoon workshop at Greenbrae Steading Hopeman, on Sunday 27 September from 1-4.30pm and either start on your Tunisian journey or develop your skills. 

We start with the Tunisian simple stitch before moving onto the different Tunisian stitches and how to create the most beautiful patterns. You will learn the techniques for finishing off each row perfectly, identifying where to make the stitch and how to make the different stitches. Tunisian crochet, to me, is one of the most satisfying forms of crochet - the rhythm of it is just so lovely. 

If you are starting off, a simple crochet hook is needed - with Tunisian you work two hook sizes larger than normal to avoid curling of the work. I recommend a wool based yarn/good quality acrylic double knitting yarn to start with, in a light colour and not variegated. 

You can buy the longer Tunisian hooks as well, all good woolshops online and locally will have options for you, but for learning the basic stitches they are not essential. 

For moving on to the next steps then a longer hook is essential. The sets that you can get with the interchangeable extensions are a great idea - I personally love the KnitPro Symfonie Afghan/Tunisian crochet set, but other sets are available! They are really handy if wanting to do blankets or larger items with Tunisian as you will have a lot of stitches on the hook! Same principles apply, two hook sizes larger than normal so if you pick a yarn that says use 4mm hook with it, you'll need a 6mm hook. Moving on to the next steps, a variegated yarn should work fine!
